Send a Premiere practice project your tutor can reopen

A finished video shows the result of an edit. For feedback on the editing itself, your tutor may also need to open the timeline, inspect a cut and try a different arrangement. Sending the Premiere project file alone can leave them looking at missing-media warnings instead of your work.

Agree on the submission before making the package. Ask whether the tutor wants a playable video, an editable project, or both. Confirm the sequence to review and the Premiere version they can open. Keep your original project and recordings in place while you prepare a separate copy for delivery.

Choose the material the tutor needs

Name the review sequence clearly. A project containing several attempts should make the intended version easy to identify. Add a short note describing the exercise and your contribution. If the assignment used shared footage, distinguish your editing decisions from material supplied by the tutor.

The guide to packaging a Premiere project with its media explains the copy options and the checks needed on the receiving computer. For a practice submission, decide whether the tutor only needs the current cut or should also see unused takes. Those are different review tasks.

In Adobe’s Project Manager instructions, the copy workflow starts at File > Project Manager. Select the checkbox beside each sequence you intend to send, then choose Collect Files and Copy to New Location. Select a separate destination folder and review the available options before starting the copy.

Pay attention to Exclude Unused Clips. Adobe describes this option as leaving out media not used in the original project. If the exercise asks the tutor to compare alternate takes, make sure the required alternatives reach the package. Do not remove them merely to make the upload smaller.

Before transferring the folder, prepare a short handover note:

  • Identify the sequence and the intended viewing format.
  • State the Premiere version used to save the project.
  • List any extra fonts or third-party effects used, so the tutor can check availability.
  • Give the timecodes of the edits you want feedback on, with a specific question for each.

Check the delivered copy, then request feedback

Transfer the complete collected folder. Adobe’s guidance for moving projects to another computer says to keep the file structure intact. A loose project file taken out of that folder can lose the relationship to the media you prepared.

Ask the tutor to open the copy from the delivered folder and confirm that the intended sequence plays with picture and sound. An opening check on your own computer is useful, but it does not establish that the tutor’s computer has everything it needs. Include a playable reference video when the submission brief allows it; this gives the tutor a view of the intended result if an editable element looks different.

If you need to correct a playback or export problem before submitting, use the topic-specific PremiereProClub editing and export guides rather than changing several project settings at once. Save a clearly named revision and check the resulting file. The handover note should refer to the same revision as the folder you send.

Make feedback easy to act on. A question such as “Does the cut at 00:18 make the next action unclear?” gives the tutor a defined decision to assess. Once you receive comments, record the requested change against that timecode and send the next version with a new name. Keep the reviewed submission until the exercise is complete.
